Jack Jemsek
Senior Scientist
Jack brings over 35 years of experience in environmental and hydrogeologic consulting across New England. His expertise spans environmental due diligence, risk-based waste site cleanups, subsurface remediation, vapor intrusion mitigation, soil management, regulatory compliance, hydrogeologic permitting, and water supply development.
Throughout his career, Jack has collaborated with professionals in civil and geotechnical engineering, ecological assessment, building science, and regulatory compliance, enhancing his ability to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary solutions. This broad experience gives him a strong grasp of the 'big picture,' particularly in complex land and brownfield redevelopment projects. His passion lies in helping landowners, developers, municipalities, and other stakeholders revitalize brownfield properties in a practical and cost-effective manner.
Jack earned a B.S. in Earth Sciences from the University of Notre Dame in 1981 and a Ph.D. in Oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (MIT/WHOI) Joint Program in 1988.

Jack also maintains OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER, HAZWOPER Supervisor, and OSHA 10-Hour Construction certifications.
He has been an active member of the National Groundwater Association (NGWA) since 1988, the Licensed Site Professional Association (LSPA) of Massachusetts since 1997, and the Environmental Professionals' Organization of Connecticut (EPOC) since 1999. Jack served as President of the New Hampshire Geological Society from 1998 to 2000 and played a key role in the Joint Working Group on Proposed Licensing of Professional Geologists, which led to the enactment of New Hampshire's Professional Geologist statute in 2000.
Jack and his family have lived in Amherst, Massachusetts since 2000. He has taken a keen interest in his community, and has served on the Amherst Planning Board (2016–2022), the Water Supply Protection Committee (since 2018), the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission Executive Committee (since 2020), and the Amherst Board of Health (since 2024), in addition to participating in several other local working groups.
